I wish I could say we went straight from Edinburgh to Loch Lomond but we actually went to Southend for a week (I’ve not blogged it because all we did was chill out and go visit my uncle!), home for a week and then back up via the Lake District again… Isla and I have well & truly had enough of these long drives as after this we knew we were heading to Glasgow & then TORQUAY…! Seriously. So we decided to fly back up to Edinburgh to meet Barney…! I was more than a little apprehensive about travelling by myself with a 1 year old at nap time (!!!) but the British Airways staff were incredible, going above & beyond to make sure we were safe and felt looked after! Isla made friends with everyone on our flight, had a little nap and then before we knew it we were out the other side and meeting Barney with our cases!
We chose Luss in Loch Lomond for our little mini break before the next tour venue and Barney found a gorgeous self catering cottage for us!
I am completely rubbish and didn’t take any pictures of the inside, but it was warm, well decorated and a lovely place to stay! It had two bedrooms, a bathroom (just with a shower) and a lovely kitchen open plan living room.
The little town is just perfect in every way – it had a few shops with great souvenirs and the pubs and restaurants were so welcoming to families!
The cottage was just a few minutes walk down to Loch Lomond itself… And what a view…
Barney is suffering with Insta-Dad syndrome. He is so fed up with having his picture taken now or being made to wait while I try to get Isla to look this way, that it took me nearly falling into the Loch to make him smile for this shot… Charming eh?!
We did a bit more exploring and found the River Luss which had a beautiful shallow part just behind the bridge for children to splash in! (Spot Barney & Isla on the bridge!)
The next day we got up early and went hunting for waterfalls!!
We drove about 30 minutes to this one but we were literally surrounded by them and spoilt for choice! Barney wore Isla in our Baby Bjorn ONE as it is not wheelchair or pram accessible. It was a bit nerve wracking for me walking down as my hips are still so unstable and I struggle on un-even ground.
But it was worth the trip! Only a 2 minute walk from the car park down and there was so many different smaller falls to see too! I didn’t take many pictures because I was busy enjoying and Isla wasn’t really in the mood to have her photo taken… As you can see… She thought this was hilarious. As did Daddy…
We headed back to the cottage for a quick nap and then we rushed down to catch the boat tour! I ordered Isla a hat from Zara (obviously!) but it didn’t arrive in time so she’s wearing an adult hat from the tourist shop – it you are wondering what on earth is on her head!
‘Ermergh a berhhtt…’
We went on the ‘Island Explorer’ tour with Cruise Loch Lomond and it was exactly what we had hoped. An extremely beautiful and interesting day out! We boarded in Luss and were taken to visit the beautiful Inchcailloch –‘Isle of the Cowled Woman’. The captain and crew were brilliant, welcoming and knowledgable.
We were left to explore the Island for a few hours and slightly regretted eating all of our picnic on the boat like primary school kids out on a trip…! Isla had the best time running around on her own private Island as their were only a few other people on the island with us!
Oh what a lovely moment… the reality is that I’m holding onto her so tightly to stop her from running into the water and trying to swim away… She really does think she’s a mermaid!
We spent the rest of our time snoozing and relaxing, getting ready for another 8 show week… off to Glasgow next!
