I’ve been a bit behind on updating you with our tour adventures so this visit is a bit of a throwback to warmer times! We visited Living Coasts in Torquay in the last week of October – it is an innovative coastal zoo and aquarium where you can “take a journey around the coasts of the world and see amazing animals in naturalistic habitats.”

As you enter you go straight up a long ramp (wheelchair accessible) that leads you into the zoo – we went midweek around 2pm and there was no queue at all.

Our first stop was the Penguin beach – disco ball and all the penguins looked like they were having the time of their lives! The beautiful birds roam free and during feeding time they come right out to you so you can get unbelievably close!

Isla was fascinated with them and was a very good girl, staying well back and giving them their space! One of them decided he wanted to make friends though so I picked her up as I’m not sure he would like her over enthusiastic ‘cuddles’!

We walked round to see some beautiful South American Fur Seals enjoying the last of the warm weather! Isla perfected her Seal impression before she ran off in search of more new friends!

The walkways are all lined with wild flowers – which was such a lovely touch! Everywhere was immaculate and well thought out to give you the best experience possible! Half way round there was this brilliant water table which is Isla’s dream come true – animals and water play – it doesn’t get much better than that!

After a lengthy discussion we finally convinced Isla to leave the water table – just in time to see the otters being fed and hear all about them! They were Asian short-clawed otters with bags of personality!

There are so many different types of birds to see and learn about as you go round – this shot was taken just as feeding time was really kicking off! Lots of the birds came down to the penguin area to pick up the leftovers from feeding time.

Once all the excitement was over we headed inside to find a sandpit. These little additions make such a big difference to keeping our very busy toddler happy and were lovely extra touches to our brilliant day out!

We’ve visited so many aquariums all over the country on this tour and this has to be one of our favourites. There was so much to see and everything was really beautifully designed to make it incredibly interesting and fun for Isla!

They could have stayed there all day…

Reunited with her penguin friends once more! They did some amazing acrobatics for Isla in her own personal show!

I’ve only put Isla in this outfit a handful of times – but I always seem to photograph her in it! People are going to think she doesn’t have any other clothes – but I promise she has a wardrobe bursting with them!

The whole experience was perfect from start to finish – especially thanks to their brilliant and knowledgable staff who made us feel so welcome. We had lunch in their Terrace Bar Cafe which had incredible sea views and a great choice of food for all ages. The baby change was easily accessible and clean. I can’t recommend it enough for all ages. Tickets cost £11.95 for adults and £8.30 for children 3-15 years old. You can also save money by doing a joint ticket with Paignton Zoo but unfortunately we didn’t have time on the schedule to fit in both!
